I have finally made some ground on the weight front. This morning I weighed in at 230.8 which is a loss of 2.5 pounds since last Monday (4.5 pounds from last Tuesday if that makes sense … damn you Topper’s Pizza). Saturday morning I was actually 228.6 but that was more of a result of being so sick I dare not speak about it. I had my first workout with my 60 year old personal trainer. I got 6 sessions when I joined my gym. At least I feel comfortable with the equipment and have a little routine I can do during my lunch.
Saturday I went to see the Transformers movie with some friends. We actually tried to see it Monday night at a sneak preview but there was undisclosed problems with the projector/film and we were issued free passes and sent home. I went in with pretty low expectations. In one of my early blog posts I discussed some of my problems with what had been leaked about the movie. Well here is my official review.
Transformers is an excellent movie, probably the best I have seen in a while. It is face paced and full of action. It was even really funny. The CG in the movie was incredible. It wasn’t until it was over that I really thought about it. At no time did they appear or seem like animations, there simply were giant transforming robots in the movie. Even the acting was good. Don’t forget … hot actresses, for those of you interested in that, Heidi tells me I am not. At almost 2 and a half hours (though it doesn’t feel long) I don’t recommend the large drink, as I had.
For some reason I can’t overlook some really nit picky things so here are some questions I have. If they can scan and become anything (see Bumblebee model change) why do they stay in their original form all the time? Why wouldn’t you change from a car to a jet when you need to fly? Why does Optimus Prime showboat and take extra long to transform every time? Also, does the cube only make evil/violent/angry robots … where did the Autobots come from? Isn’t he more Galvatron then Megatron? Did the Shockwave wannabe just watch Gremlins on HBO? How can you change from a car size object to a building size robot? If you have a robot destroying sword, why not use it all the time, especially against you mortal enemy? None of this stuff stops you from enjoying the film.
My two bigger problems were … the transformations and robots were a little over done (too complex). Transformers were cool because you could identify what the robot transformed from. Secondly, this movie sets the gold standard in product placement and it was just too much. GMC was everywhere (plus don’t forget about you Mountain Dew and Nokia robots). I understand why but I fear for the future. They tried to make up with the Barricade Vs Bumblebee fight (Ford Mustang VS Chevy Camaro) but Bumblebee’s Chevy markings were well portrayed where the Ford markings were seemly removed.
But like I said, this is all just being picky. I loved it. It is a shame I can’t give a rating better then One And Three Quarter Thumbs due to my physical handicap. I would see it again … when are you going? Can I come?

Did the Shockwave wannabe just watch Gremlins on HBO?
Two things about this:
- Soundwave was the ghettoblaster, not Shockwave (Shockwave turned into some form of a laser gun).
- Apparently this is Frenzy, who was one of the tapes that came out of Soundwave. He’s the one that wants to be Rumble, but isn’t so good at it.
Otherwise, I’ll just steal from another message board to give my review:
This was the greatest Michael Bay movie that Michael Bay has ever directed.

It was a fine movie.
Product placement doesn’t bug me because I don’t notice it. Given that GM is taking a nosedive these days and needs all the help it can get, kudos to them!
Also, jeers to VW and Porsche for not letting their names be associated with war…again…

Boo Mike … I am sick about this soundwave / shockwave mistake of mine.
